The Thinking Substance (New Thought Literature)

“There is a Thinking Stuff from which all things are made, and which, in its original state, permeates, penetrates, and fills the inner spaces of the Universe.” Wallace D Wattles.

The New Thought movement emerged in the late 19th century with a wave of New Thought Authors… scholars of the ancient teachings, of teachings from both the East and West… and they were prolific speakers and writers, sharing the wisdom they had gleamed.

Several influential authors emerged during this time, authors whose works continue to inspire the Personal Development movement of today.

They were the Pioneers of Positive Thinking. Emphasizing the power of positive thinking, the mind’s ability to shape reality, and the inherent divinity of all beings. With different names and slightly different descriptions, many of these New Thought Authors spoke of this ‘Thinking Stuff’… this Qi, Chi or Prana… the Universal Life Force Energy that is everything.

“We assert that there is one Original Formless Stuff or Substance, from which all things are made. All the seemingly many elements are but different presentations of one element…

Man can form things in his thought, and, by impressing his thought upon formless substance, can cause the thing he thinks about to be created.”
