Shamanic Trances and Hypnosis: Exploring the Similarities and Outcomes…

Shamanic Trances

Throughout history various cultures and traditions have utilized Altered States of Consciousness for spiritual exploration, healing and personal growth. Todays Hypnotic approach to change and Shamanic Trances share a lot in common…

Hypnosis was ‘discovered’, formalized, named etc… in Western Europe, between the late 1700’s and the mid 1850’s… since then many different approaches have developed and much research has happened.

Shamanism, coming from an Animistic way of life is as old as the first expressions in ‘rock art’ and older… The Different Shaman and the different approaches to the use of ‘Shamanic Trances’ vary enormously across continents and epochs of time.

Despite their distinctly different cultural origins, these practices share intriguing similarities in their approach and effects… with common threads that connect ancient and modern practices.

ASC’s

Both Shamanic Trances and Hypnotic Trance States are the after effect of the induction of an Altered State of Consciousness. During these states individuals experience an expanded awareness and a shift in their normal perception of reality.

Whether through rhythmic drumming, chanting or guided experiences by the Shaman or a hypnotist, both practices aim to access deeper levels of consciousness for healing, insight and/or transformation.

Making profound change possible… physical, mental or emotional ‘healing’ as well as Insight, guidance and wisdom.

Healing and Transformation

In shamanic practices, the shaman acts as a mediator between the spiritual and physical realms, working to restore balance and harmony.

In Hypnosis the Hypnotist helps promote healing by acting as a mediator, taping into the inherent self-healing capacities of individuals, supporting their personal growth and well-being.

Shamanism and Hypnosis share a common goal of facilitating healing and transformation.

Deep Relaxation and Focus

One method is the induction of a deep relaxation and focused attention… by entering this relaxed state (Shamanic Journey, Hypnotic Trance) the conscious mind takes a backseat, allowing for a deeper connection.

Connection with the Inner Self

In shamanic practices, the Shaman induces an Altered State of Consciousness in someone, a group of people (or themselves)… guiding them, accessing spiritual realms, communicating with spirits and gaining insight from their Inner Self for personal growth.

In hypnosis, the Hypnotist guides individuals into accessing their subconscious mind to gain insight, or to make change, leading to personal transformation and self-discovery.

Symbolic Imagery and Journeys

Both Shamanic work and Hypnosis often use symbolic imagery.

Shamans may embark on visionary journeys, guided by spirits or animal guides, to explore different realms and gather wisdom.

A Hypnotist may use guided visualizations and imagery to access the subconscious mind and uncover insights.

Symbolic journeys and imagery allow for profound exploration and can lead to healing, understanding and the integration of new perspectives.

Through both these practices, you can gain insights, release emotional or energetic blockages and develop a deeper understanding of yourself.

This self-exploration and empowerment helps personal growth, increases self-awareness, and develops a greater sense of purpose and life fulfillment.

Shamanic Trances

Both practices involve entering Altered States of Consciousness… and many similar approaches recognizing these commonalities we can appreciate the universal quest for self-discovery, healing and personal growth…

…as well as recognising the multitude of pathways available to embark on transformative journeys… and how they might synergise well together, in Hypnotic Shamantic Trances.
